Cyber Readiness Assessment

Are you starting out on the data security compliance journey?

Our interactive and remote cyber security assessment is designed to help you understand what is needed to keep your communities and settings safe. The assessment offers the opportunity to ask questions, and enable a clear and straightforward understanding of any gaps in the current systems and provision.

You will receive an action plan along with a full documentation pack, including training resources, to assist with upskilling staff and preventing cyber incidents. Suitable for any type of education setting and clear enough to support those with no technical knowledge or technical support on site.

NB. Providers that have completed a Cyber Readiness Assessment may be eligible for direct submission for the Cyber Essentials accreditation.

Cyber Essentials:

Cyber Essentials is a simple but effective Government-backed scheme that will help you to protect your organisation against a whole range of the most common cyber-attacks.

Meeting the Cyber Essentials certification standards helps you to guard against the most common cyber threats, demonstrates your commitment to cyber security and can prevent up to 80% of cyber-attacks, protecting your setting and its community.

Organisations that achieve Cyber Essentials certification through us will receive free Cyber Liability Insurance.

We have broken the journey to Cyber Essentials down into 3 simple steps:

Step 1: Cyber Security Audit

Our Cyber Security Audit involves a comprehensive review of your school’s cyber security strengths and weaknesses in an easy to understand format. The audit can be the first step towards achieving the Cyber Essentials Certification, or simply serve to inform your security priorities.

The audit is suitable even for those with no technical knowledge or technical support on site, and will help you understand how your school’s security environment, systems, and processes, compare against recognised government standards and the Cyber Essentials framework.

The audit will identify weaknesses, give recommendations on areas for improvement, and support your school to up-skill staff and prevent cyber incidents.

Step 2: Cyber Certification Support

After completion of the Cyber Audit (and implementation of any identified changes), schools can move to Step 2 Cyber Certification Support.

The Cyber Certification Support service pulls together all the required information to submit for Cyber Essentials Certification (Step 3) and provides support and training for your staff along the way.

The team will liaise with internal, or external, IT providers and technical support personnel, to complete the Cyber Essentials submission, without the need for in-house technical knowledge.

Products:

Police Cyber Alarm
Police Cyber Alarm

The Education Data Hub is proud to recommend this free to use product which helps organisations monitor and report the malicious activity they face from the Internet.

The system is made up of two parts; monitoring and vulnerability scanning.

Police CyberAlarm acts as a “CCTV camera” monitoring the traffic seen by a member’s connection to the internet. It will detect and provide regular reports of suspected malicious activity, enabling organisations to minimise their vulnerabilities.

Vulnerability Scanning can be added and used to scan an organisations website and external IP addresses, providing regular reports of all known vulnerabilities.

The system is designed to protect personal data, trade secrets and intellectual property.

Members of Police CyberAlarm will become part of the wider UK cyber defence network, sharing collected data with Police for analysis at local, regional and national levels to identify trends, react to emerging threats and identify, pursue and prosecute cyber criminals.

Training:

Cyber Awareness Training (Suitable for all staff)
Your staff are your largest defence against cyber-attack and your biggest risk of a cyber incident, yet only 35% of schools train non-IT staff in recognising and preventing cyber incidents.
Cyber Incident Response and Disaster Recovery Planning
Training to help you identify IT / cyber incidents, risk assess and categorise severity, and guidance on disaster recovery planning.
Getting the most out of your IT supplier
Know what to ask when choosing IT provision, how to hold your existing supplier to account, and how your Service Level Agreement protects your school.
Promoting your setting online and digital reputation

Regular Reporting

The Cyber Alarm tool sends weekly or monthly reports detailing activity discovered on your devices.

This report provides details of potential attacks for further investigation, and helps raise issues which can be addressed through staff training.

Increased Protection

Data from the Cyber Alarm system helps organisations update blacklists and other security measures using

relevant information from the system to strengthen security.

Evidence Gathering

Cyber Alarm logs details automatically so in the event of a cybercrime or cyber incident, evidence will be

preserved and investigations can progress without disruption.
